Sailing in Turkey
Turkey's coastal beauty offers an unparalleled backdrop for sailing and finding the pleasures in life. With its unique blend of cultural influences and stunning landscapes, this experience is a true reflection of Turkey's spirit. It's all about embracing the joy of the sea, savoring delectable cuisine, and forging lasting connections.
It varies each day. The actual sailing time is typically 3-5 hours per day, so come prepared to be involved!
We sleep at anchor, on the boats, each night, usually 100 - 200 meters from shore. There's plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing on the beach in between sailing.
No! Most participants do not have any sailing experience, and many get to learn on the trip as it is a very hands-on experience!
We respect everyone to be an adult and make his, her, or their own decisions about consuming alcohol on this trip. Each of us will have a different preference when it comes to drinking.
However, having too much to drink is a safety concern, and, frankly, an annoyance. It’s the fastest way to ruin a good time.
We sail in some of the most beautiful locations in the world, and no one needs to go overboard in how much you drink. Please drink responsibly. Drink modestly. Drink considerately. It will improve the experience for everyone.
We recommend flying into Dalaman Airport (DLM): The airport is 25km from our base, which is a 30-minute journey by car. Fly directly to Istanbul and get a connecting flight or you can fly into DLM via many European cities.
Please arrive at DLM by 3:30 p.m. on June 8th. You can arrive early, though we will begin all preparation work at our base at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8th. You can depart after 11 a.m. on June 15th.
Please do NOT bring hard-sided suitcases. There is not room for storage at our marina while we are sailing.
We anchor the boats in the calmest coves we can find. We anchor before sunset so we can relax, enjoy a happy hour toast, cook, and eat dinner. We plan 2-3 "party nights" where we can let loose and have fun, and on other nights we have family-style meals, star gazing, and sip our favorite drinks in paradise.
Each boat is different and develops a personality. Some boats have less drinking, and some boats will stay up drinking into the wee hours of the morning many mornings.
We survey all participants before the trip, and we encourage you to share as clearly as you like about your nighttime shenanigans and drinking preferences.
Most people on an Unsettled retreat are professionals who are emotionally intelligent, have many hobbies, and are curious and passionate about life. This isn't a post-college party trip, though many do party hard! Our average age of participants is mid-30s to mid-40s, but we've hosted folks of all ages. Living Unsettled is truly ageless.
We've hosted CEOs and entrepreneurs, artists and experience designers, and people who are active, even experts, in everything from transcendental meditation to CrossFit, from Bikram yoga to kiteboarding, and from diving to flying. On any given day, however, most of us are content hanging out with each other, exploring new places, and trying new things.
Since thinking big about our work and careers is one of the organizing principles of Unsettled, many participants are high achievers who organize major conferences, run businesses, or are even recognized experts in their field. We have a lot of designers, developers, entrepreneurs, and startup enthusiasts on our trips.
All of this being said, it's not required to be working on something or have a "professional CV" in order to live Unsettled with us. Many joining us are retired, taking a sabbatical, or deciding what comes next in life and looking for some inspiration.
At the same time, these trips are not for everyone. Plain and simple.
You must be ready to embrace the unknown, and recognize and be comfortable with the inherent risks, challenges, and fluid nature involved in multiday sailing trips.
You should be tolerant, respectful, and open to people's differences.
These trips do not have a lot of structure that some participants may expect from a typical tour company. We are Unsettled after all and we value the unstructured nature of the real world. If you require an exact plan or itinerary for each day, then you should know that these trips don't unfold that way. Our sailing trips are closer to real-life cruising than it is a structured itinerary by a typical tour company.
At Unsettled, we truly focus on building retreats full of dynamic people who have much more to offer to the group than just work experience. These experiences are social by definition, and so one of our main qualifications is to look for people who share some simple principles:
Open to spending time with people from different cultures, backgrounds, and values
Curious about the people and the world around them
Considerate of others, and respectful of others at all times

Travel insurance is required. We will not refund your trip within our no refund or cancelation period. Please get travel insurance that covers your trip costs if you cannot join us because of a medical event, death, loss of employment, natural disaster, etc. Every trip we have participants who cannot join us for one of these reasons, and they lose their investment in this trip without travel insurance. Don't make this mistake.
Unsettled covers a standard set of breakfast and lunches for each boat. Each boat will have a crew of about 8 and your crew will have a group responsibility to plan, shop, and purchase dinners on your boat. You split the costs of the provisions for your dinners, beverages, snacks, sweets, and alcohol among your crew. When you provision for your trip, it typically costs $80-$100 per person for you to purchase groceries for your boat's dinners, snacks, and sweets, and another $50 - $80 if you drink alcohol ($25 - $50 if you do not).
The boundaries between work, life, and travel are becoming blurred, fundamentally changing how we live today. Unsettled brings together groups of travelers and professionals from around the world for uniquely co-created experiences. Each one-week, two-week, or one month retreat is designed to break your routine and inspire a renewed sense of growth, meaning and adventure through transformational travel and peer-to-peer learning.
Whether you're working full time, or going through an intentional career transition, our retreats are designed to help you break out of your routine and explore a new destination with an incredible group of peers.
We will provide a breakdown for the 'average' participant below, but this varies greatly depending on how much you dine out and how much you drink.
Average participant: ~$80 - $150 to pitch in on provisions; ~ $100 - $200 to tip for your captain; ~$75 - $100 to eat out a couple of times.
Drop us your email and we'll keep you posted with news, fresh stories, exclusive trip updates, and special offers. Don't worry. We hate spam as much as the next person, and respect your privacy.
