Sailing Tahiti
Tahiti is known as the beating heart of Polynesia, partially because it is home to 75% of the region’s population and from the palpable energy you feel from how the volcanic mountains and tropical valleys meet the crystal clear lagoons of the South Pacific.
If you’ve ever dreamed of a trip through the South Pacific, this is your chance.
Our meeting point is at Raiatea airport (RFP) on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Please arrive by 1 pm local time. We will have drivers meet you at the airport and transfer you to our boats.
You will have to fly into French Polynesia via faa'a international airport (PPT) before taking a short transfer flight to Raiatea.
You can depart Raiatea anytime on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
The boundaries between work, life, and travel are becoming blurred, fundamentally changing how we live today. Unsettled brings together groups of travelers and professionals from around the world for uniquely co-created experiences. Each one-week, two-week, or one month retreat is designed to break your routine and inspire a renewed sense of growth, meaning and adventure through transformational travel and peer-to-peer learning.
Whether you’re working full time, or going through an intentional career transition, our retreats are designed to help you break out of your routine and explore a new destination with an incredible group of peers.
Each destination and experience is different, however most one-month and two-week experiences include comfortable and centrally located accommodations, a coworking space, full-time staff dedicated to lead your experience, a productivity-driven environment, regular dinner parties and themed conversations, peer-to-peer workshops, curated events, epic adventures, spontaneous activities and hopefully one of the best experiences of your life. Our one-week experiences are more adventure driven, whether urban or nature focused – and you can explore what each trip holds by visiting that particular retreat page.
Payments, Cancellations, and Refunds For Travel Experiences: As soon as you pay your deposit or any first payment, your spot for the trip is secured. This deposit or first payment remains refundable for 10 days following your payment, unless you are within 45 days of the start date (no refunds or transfers within 45 days), subject to a $100 administrative fee. Should you need to transfer your payment, you can do so up to 45 days before the start date of your trip, also incurring a $100 administrative fee. Please note that neither refunds nor transfers are available if there are fewer than 45 days remaining before your trip's start date. Additionally, all participants are required to obtain travel insurance. This insurance must cover trip cancellation or interruption, including cancellations made by you, as well as provide for emergency evacuation and international health insurance coverage throughout the duration of your travel with Unsettled.
Every day is different. On two of our days, we will have longer sails of 5 - 6 hours to and from Bora-Bora. Most other days will include 2-4 hours of sailing and plenty of time in the water, beaches, and land trips.
No! Most participants do not have any sailing experience, and many get to learn on the trip as it is a very hands-on experience!
We anchor the boats in the calmest coves we can find. We anchor before sunset so we can relax, debrief, enjoy a happy hour toast, cook, and eat dinner as a group. We may plan 2-3 "party nights" where we can let loose and have fun, and on other nights we have family-style meals, star gaze, and sip our favorite drinks in paradise.
Most people on an Unsettled retreat are professionals who are emotionally intelligent, have many hobbies, and are curious and passionate about life. This isn't a post-college party trip. Our average age of participants is mid 30's to mid 40's, but we've hosted folks of all ages. Living Unsettled is truly ageless.
We've hosted CEOs and entrepreneurs, artists and experience designers, and people who are active, even experts, in everything from transcendental meditation to CrossFit, from Bikram yoga to kiteboarding, and from diving to flying. On any given day, however, most of us are content hanging out with each other, exploring new places, and trying new things.
Since thinking big about our work and careers is one of the organizing principles of Unsettled, many participants are high achievers who organize major conferences, run businesses or are even recognized experts in their field. We have a lot of designers, developers, entrepreneurs, and startup enthusiasts on our trips. All of this being said, it's not required to be working on something or have a "professional CV" in order to live Unsettled with us.
These experiences are social by definition, and so one of our main qualifications is to look for people who share some simple principles:
Open to spending time with people from different cultures with different value sets
Curious about the people and the world around them
Considerate of others
Basically, as long as you're not an asshole, you'll fit right in
You'll be assigned to a boat and captain about a week before your trip. Your captain will reach out before the trip to gather info on what you'd like to cook, prep, and eat for the week. Your boat will shop for provisions for the week and split the costs among your crew. Shopping for provisions usually comes to around $250 per person for the week before alcohol. Food and drink costs are more expensive in Tahiti than most places around the world. We eat most meals on the boats on this trip but make room for 2 dinners on shore.
Good question!
We share lots of info about the trip starting about 6 weeks before it starts (so early March). You'll begin to get emails with more info about arrivals, our community values, eating preferences & provisions, packing list, and we'll even hold a zoom call for everyone on the trip.
We'll likely send a trip update in November or December with a little more info about the trip coming together, and some info for those who may want to arrive early!
We can't say for sure, but this is one of our more popular trips. Even with space for up to 32 people, we expect Unsettled Tahiti to sell out sometime in September 2023.
It's a great idea. We do it. You are welcome to do your own research and travel how you like. Our recommendation is to explore Mo'orea. It's close to the int'l airport so you can arrive early and ferry to Mo'orea or you can stay a few extra days after our sailing trip. We will share more info closer to the trip.
Drop us your email and we'll keep you posted with news, fresh stories, exclusive trip updates, and special offers. Don't worry. We hate spam as much as the next person, and respect your privacy.
