Unsettled: Patagonia

Sold Out - Join Waiting List

A one-week alpine experience to explore Argentina’s most hidden gems...

At the heart of the Argentine Patagonia’s Lakes District, lies one of the worlds “most charming towns”: Bariloche. Surrounded by massive lakes and majestic mountains, Bariloche is the ideal mountain town to spend a week in full adventure mode -- hiking, kayaking, rock climbing -- while exploring Nahuel Huapi National Park. But adventure isn’t the only reason to visit. With a downtown inspired by Swiss architecture, Bariloche’s chocolatiers, cafes, and craft breweries, filled with alpine charm, are great places to relax and recharge after a day of adventuring. This 1-Week Unsettled Adventure offers a curated yet flexible platform to explore this remarkable region. You will have open-exploration days in Bariloche for you to wander at your leisure. We will host workshops and reflective discussions over dinners, and ask the bigger questions of life inspired by the awe surrounding us. We will travel together by foot, van, boat, and, hell, maybe even condor… The only question left is: Are you ready for your next adventure?

The Community

Unsettled: Patagonia is not your average Unsettled experience. There is no work component. In fact, our intention is to be completely disconnected for the duration of our week. That’s the point: to draw inspiration exclusively from the vast beauty that surrounds us and from the people who join us. You will learn. You will grow. You will be challenged. This is the adventure of a lifetime.

The Experience

Unsettled is a community for those who embrace the unknown and seek to replace routine with adventure. We bring together the curious, the nomadic, the unconventional and set them loose in one of the world’s most inspiring places. For a week, alongside this curated group of peers, you’ll unsettle, unplug, and share an experience steeped in intention and meaningful connection. Plus, after your trip is over, you’ll have joined a growing community of Unsettled alumni spread out over 80 countries around the world.

Day zero

We meet in Buenos Aires before traveling to Bariloche – the base camp of our adventures – by plane. If you are joining Unsettled in Buenos Aires, then your journey has already begun by this point, and you are ready to adventure on! If you are coming for Unsettled: Patagonia only, you are welcome to arrive the night before our planned departure and meet up with us in Buenos Aires before we fly to Bariloche on the morning of March 27th.

Day one...

Day one is for casually exploring and getting acquainted with Bariloche. In the evening we’ll have a welcome dinner to set our intentions for this week. On day two, we will warm up together with a half day exploration around Circuito Chico, one of Bariloche’s most scenic routes as the chance to orient and soak it all in.

Days three to four...

On days three to four, our journey takes us into Pampa Linda, for our overnight trip to Cerro Tronador the tallest mountain inside the Nahuel Huapi National Park. We will hike for about 4-5 hours the first day to get to a mountain hut where we will spend the night, overlooking the stunning Castaño Overa and Alerce glaciers, 2000 meters above sea level.

Day five...

Day five is open and yours to explore – we will help you curate your own day, whether you want to hang back and explore the cafes and take it easy, or go on a full day boat tour in one of the nearby lakes.

Being Unsettled for the last 30 days has felt liberating. It’s about opening up to a whole range of new possibilities, saying yes to new experiences, and not setting expectations that limit your growth.

An Unsettled trip is like venturing into the unknown. You have no idea how the experience or people you’ll meet will be… but that unknown proved to be a very rewarding experience. You’ll leave Unsettled richer. Richer in the memories you create and the connections you make. Worth every minute.

Lesibane Mohale | Creative Director at Ogilvy & Mather

Unsettled, the kind of experience you can't really explain to someone unless they have done it themselves. Step out of your comfort zone, and just do it! " Damn, I really shouldn't have done that Unsettled month, " said no-one ever!

FAQs

Unsettled: Patagonia is not your average Unsettled experience. There is no work component. In fact, our intention is to be completely disconnected for the duration of our week. That’s the point: to draw inspiration exclusively from the vast beauty that surrounds us and from the people who join us. You will learn. You will grow. You will be challenged. This is the adventure of a lifetime.

Yes! In fact, most of the time while away is up to you. The Unsettled experience is your experience, don't forget! We create just enough structure so that you can plug into the different activities, workshops, and connect with people as you wish.

Nothing is required, and everything is voluntary; however, we do look for people who contribute, and highly recommend that you do. Typically, the more you put into your experience, the more you get out. Our role is to provide a platform so you are informed and can participate as you like.

Most days are unstructured. We have exploration days or adventure days (whatever your current activity!) You would not be working on this retreat, as it is more of an adventure retreat, where you will spend a lot of time out in nature. We encourage you to explore places we recommend or discover your own new secret spots. We tend to have numerous dinners, excursions, activities and surprises throughout the week that everyone is welcome to join. You never know the kind of inspiration that can come through connecting with a community, so be sure to try and take advantage of it while you're able.

Most people on an Unsettled retreat are professionals with multidimensional personalities and vast interests. This isn't a post-college party trip. Our average age of participants is mid 30's to mid 40's, but we've hosted folks of all ages. Living Unsettled is truly ageless.

We've hosted CEOs and entrepreneurs, artists and experience designers, and people who are active, even experts, in everything from transcendental meditation to CrossFit, from Bikram yoga to kiteboarding, and from diving to flying. On any given day however, most of us are content hanging out with each other, exploring new places and trying new things.

Since thinking big about our work and careers is one of the organizing principles of Unsettled, many participants are high achievers who organize major conferences, run businesses, or are recognized experts in their field. We have a lot of designers, developers, entrepreneurs, and startup enthusiasts on our trips.

All of this being said, it's not required to be working on something or have a "professional CV" in order live Unsettled with us. Many joining us are retired, taking a sabbatical, or deciding what comes next in life and looking for some inspiration.

At Unsettled, we truly focus on building retreats full of dynamic people who have much more to offer to the group than just work experience. These experiences are social by definition, and so one of our main qualifications is to look for people who share some simple principles:

  • Open to spending time with people from different cultures with different value sets
  • Curious about the people and the world around them
  • Considerate of others
  • Basically, as long as you're not an asshole, you'll fit right in.

As we ease back into travel, we will review trips on a constant basis. We will do a final review at 60, 45, and 30 days before (or closer as necessary) any trip's start date to determine that it is still feasible and safe to run the trip. If we postpone your trip, we will place 100% of your trip payments into trip credit used for future travel. For any trips that we postpone in 2021, you will have 1 year from the trip start date (so sometime in 2022) to use your credit on a new trip.

Deposits are fully refundable up to 60 days before the start date of your trip (previously 60 days). Your spot is held as soon as you make your payment. Final payments are due no later than 60 days before your retreat's start date. You can transfer your credit to another trip (within 6 months) one time, up until 45 days before your trip start date. 45 days before your trip's start date there are no refunds or transfers. However, if Unsettled postpones the trip, your full payment amount will be credited and available for you to use up to 1 year from your trip start date.

As we've all learned during the past year, everything is subject to change. Please understand that these policies may change at any time due to the very fluid and unpredictable situation.

We also want you to know that we are committed to staying true to our values. We have learned from past challenges and are able to adjust as the environment changes. We pride ourselves on being a flux-minded company that deals well with uncertainty. We are excited to be traveling again and we are confident that now's the time for us to begin to get back into it, slowly but surely.
